Build your list of contacts with this fast, fun way to meet other professionals in Workplace Learning & Performance! Great for sharing trends and finding new opportunities. You'll have dedicated, one-on-one time to share areas of expertise and discuss opportunities for collaboration. Appetizers and 1 drink (beer, wine, or well cocktail) will be provided.

Our Speed Networking events continue to be enormously popular, so we’re doing it again! Here’s how it works -- After check-in, we’ll review the format and provide you with tips on networking in general and speed networking in particular.

With all participants seated in pairs, the Speed Networking sessions will commence. During each fast-paced, 8-minute rotation, participants will be able to network face-to-face before moving on to meet someone new. After 7 or 8 rotations, we open the floor for unstructured networking, where you can continue meeting new people or follow-up with those you just met.

With this proven format, participants in Speed Networking will meet more people, make more contacts, and generate more business ideas in one short evening than they ever thought was possible at a networking event!

Would you like to know how West Point predicts the success of their cadets? And imagine how you could apply this same principle to improve your and your team’s performance! That’s the focus of our program this month -- discover how you can use passion and perseverance, or “true grit,” to improve performance and get results.

This program is part of our CPLP series, and a continuation of last month’s focus on improving human performance.

Join Eric Kaufmann, leadership development consultant and founder of Insights4Results, to learn how you can improve individual performance for yourself, for your organization or for your clients using “true grit.”

Grounded in positive psychology, learn about how Eric defines “true grit” as having the perseverance and passion needed to achieve long-term goals. This is a common trait among highly successful people, such as Bill Gates, Tiger Woods, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Lady Gaga and Tom Hanks. They’re all passionate about their goals and they all demonstrate tremendous perseverance.

Eric will walk you through a case study, give you the opportunity to take the assessment that West Point uses to determine performance potential, and finish up by sharing immediately applicable hands-on best practices for improving your own performance. You can use these tools to energize your team and configure internal systems and structures to drive personal responsibility and individual improvement.

    You will walk away with:
    • A clear understanding of the four key elements for developing “true grit” in self and others
    • Tools for sustaining execution of human performance improvement for self and others
    • A 'How to' for applying positive psychology principles toward keeping a team engaged and on track for improved performance
    Who should attend:
    • HR or training Director or manager responsible for performance improvement
    • Business executive/decision-maker who want to grasp the finer points of business execution
    • External consultant who wants to bring additional efficacy to their consulting uptake
    • Internal trainer who wants to improve the learning transfer and achieve greater ROI

Learn the keys to success that will make you a successful change facilitator and help you develop strong relationships with your internal clients.

Are you a Training Manager, HR Manager, Department Manager, External Consultant or someone who deals with organizational change?  Then this workshop is for you!

Join Bev Scott and Kim Barnes, co-authors of Consulting on the Inside, published by ASTD, 2011, as they facilitate this day-long workshop.  Success as an internal consultant requires more than technical expertise, theoretical concepts or external consulting experience.  In this workshop, we will discuss the challenges and paradoxes of the demanding role of the internal consultant, offer ideas and tips to lay the foundation for success, and provide a review of the internal consulting process and how it differs from the classic external models.

Participants will learn and practice specific influence and negotiation skills to achieve results and build relationships with their clients and colleagues. They will build their competence in Facilitating Organizational Change. Participants will identify where they are in the development of their practice and consider what is required to build consulting mastery.

While valuable for individual consultants, the experience will add even more value if you come with your team – in this way, you can develop a common language and set of practices to continue your learning after the workshop. Internal consultants from any discipline are welcome (training, OD, HR, strategy, human factors, IT, etc.).

How do you manage the learning function and build effective training programs with no time and few resources within a rapidly changing environment? Learn about how Yammer has used social learning tools to accelerate the learning process for their employees. You will walk away from this session with a checklist of best practices, new ideas on how on do more with less, and ideas about how to get executive support for social learning in the classroom.

This program is part of our CPLP series, with a focus on Managing the Learning Function.

Learn about how Yammer has leveraged social learning tools to effectively manage the learning function. As learning and development professionals, we often do not have enough time to build beautiful training modules due to lack of time and resources. Companies that are experiencing either rapid growth, or who are lacking resources, have especially difficult challenges in front of them. This session will begin with a case study of a start up who is going through rapid growth, with a product that changes weekly, and a L&D team made up of just two people. You’ll see what we’ve learned about using social learning as a part of our formal training program, as well as mistakes that were made. We will discuss best practices for using social learning platforms such as Yammer, and you will experience first hand what a student experiences in a classroom. You will walk away from this session with a checklist of best practices, new ideas on how on do more with less, and ideas about how to get executive support for social learning in the classroom.

Great training starts with a great instructional design. This workshop teaches you how to develop instructionally sound courses that elicit meaningful participation, provide challenging content and achieve the learning objectives.

No matter what your delivery format – face-to-face, online, self-paced – you’ll be able to design a compelling workshop.

What you will learn – learning objectives:

This workshop follows the “industry standard” ADDIE model. By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to design & develop training courses.

Given a training need and an audience profile, workshop participants will be able to:

    • Gather information and write the key points.
    • Write learning objectives.
    • Sequence the learning objectives.
    • Select appropriate instructional strategies.
    • Design the learning activities.
    • Format the design document.

    Learning Lab:
During the workshop, you will get structured time to apply what you are learning to an actual workshop that you are developing.

We keep the number of participants low so that each participant receives plenty of coaching and personal attention.

Bring your subject materials and laptop so we can work on your workshop together.

    What other participants have said:
"Now I have a structure for organizing material logically and effectively while retaining audience interest & promoting learning."
"By far, the best value for educational dollar I’ve ever spent."
    "Great resources and reference tools."
"The activities were very useful. The instructors were very knowledgeable. They helped me with the design of a course I’m delivering next week."

    Who should attend:
    • Anyone who designs workshops.
    • Anyone who needs to revise a workshop.
    • Anyone who runs workshops and wants to fix the design.
