TRAINING, COACHING, AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
How do coaching and training fit together in todays organization, and what are some of the problems and suggested management approaches to address them?
With the increasing popularity of executive coaching, training programs to help line managers and executives learn how to coach their people are also increasing in popularity. At the same time, training managers and leaders are beginning to house coaching programs in their own organizations and they are interested in fitting coaching into overall leadership development and succession planning programs. Return on investment, program selection, leadership buy-in, in-house versus vendor-supplied coaching, execution, and evaluation are key issues that must be decided.
This presentation, led by David Peck, President of Leadership Unleashed (www.leadershipunleashed.com), an executive coaching firm, Senior Executive Coach with Marshall Goldsmith Partners, and author of the forthcoming book Beyond Effective: Practices in Self-aware Leadership, will address the challenges and possibilities inherent in fitting coaching and training together in an organization. Mr. Peck will address a variety of questions including:
- What are the types of coaching currently taking place inside organizations, and what do we really mean when we say coaching?
- If you dont have a coaching program, what is the best way to get one started AND to position it to get buy-in from the top leadership? What does it look like?
- If you have a coaching program, what are some key strategies to take it from good to great or from great to exceptional?
- What are some of the key considerations for using in-house coaches versus using a combination of in-house and external coaches, versus all external?
- What are key dos and donts for training managers to serve up a coaching program to its leadership? What are the key characteristics? Some tales from the trenches.
